Who we are
First Touch Performance Rehab was built on a simple belief: athletes deserve care that matches the demands of their sport. Founded by Calvin Mai, DPT, SCS, CSCS, the clinic blends high-level clinical expertise with real-world performance experience to guide athletes from first touch to final whistle.
Dr. Mai is a former Division I soccer athlete who understands the physical and mental demands of competitive sport. His background extends beyond playing — coaching at the youth, high school, and collegiate levels — giving him a unique perspective on athlete development across all stages.
In 2025, he was recognized as MLS Staff of the Year, as the team Physical Therapist for Minnesota United FC; reflecting his commitment to excellence within professional sport. In addition to his MLS experience, Dr. Mai has provided physical therapy services in other elite environments including high-level gymnastics programs, soccer clubs, and university athletics. He is also a trusted provider among local sports medicine physicians associated with US Soccer, the Minnesota Vikings, Minnesota Twins, and Minnesota United.
At First Touch, care is evidence-based, innovative, and performance-driven. Whether working with a developing high school athlete or a seasoned competitor, the focus remains the same: restore movement, build resilience, and prepare you to compete at your highest level.
